Our Story

A Note From Our Founder

Over the last fifteen years, I've shaped Madrid's restaurant and event planning scene and becoming a prominent figure in the hospitality industry. In 2018, my life went about normally. I was busy running Murillo Café and Velazquez 17, but that summer, my life went through a profound transformation.

My then 19-year-old son survived a near-fatal golf cart accident. He was in a coma for several weeks and the doctors gave him less than a 1% chance of survival. The prognosis we received was that he would never be able to breathe, walk or eat by himself. However challenging, we didn't believe this was his destiny.

After 100 days in the hospital, my son was discharged, and our journey to recovery began. I drove him 200 kilometres to his therapies every day. The added pressure of Joaquin's reliance on a wheelchair and constant medical support made this period extremely difficult and tiresome.

The last thing on my mind was worrying about what I was going to wear that day. I created a series of "uniforms" for myself that allowed me to be comfortable during therapy sessions and I could easily transition into evening gatherings and supervising the restaurants.

Dealing with the aftermath of the accident in doctors offices and therapy waiting rooms, I thought about an old dream of starting a clothing line. The excitement of the idea and planning behind it kept my mind busy and  gave me hope through challenging times. My vision was to create timeless basics, adaptable for any occasion from AM to PM.

Seeking quality and sustainability, I discovered a small workshop in Lisbon where a community of skilled female seamstresses craft garments by hand. They help me choose and source local materials that are durable, comfortable and tailor to the body. Our design process prioritizes precision on our fits and we work with limited quantities.

After five years of therapy, Joaquin, despite underlying speech and mobility issues, is now fully self-sufficient, joining me at dinner parties while I proudly wear my AM PM jumpsuit. I share our story to highlight how adversity can pave the way for new opportunities.
